Women's Basketball Falls at Baruch on Tuesday Afternoon
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team fell on the road to Baruch College (Baruch), 66-51, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action inside ARC Arena in New York, N.Y. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 1-8 overall, while the Bearcats improve to 5-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
USJ opened the game on a 7-4 run, paced by four points from sophomore guard Sequoia Turcotte Briggs (Andover, Conn.), to take an early edge with 7:34 on the clock. Baruch answered with a 7-0 run to grab an 11-7 lead at the 4:42 mark. The Blue Jays responded with a 6-0 stretch—highlighted by four points from sophomore guard Ella Kulas (Cheshire, Conn.)—to reclaim the lead, 13-11, with three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Baruch closed the period with four unanswered points to hold a 15-13 advantage.
The Bearcats carried momentum into the second quarter, outscoring USJ 13-3 to build a 28-16 lead with 3:38 left in the half. The Blue Jays battled back, storming within one, 28-27, following an 11-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Trinity Cruz (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and five points from Kulas. Baruch halted the run with a basket in the final seconds, heading into halftime with a narrow 30-27 lead.
The two teams traded baskets to open the third quarter, as four straight points from Kulas gave USJ a 33-32 lead at the 7:13 mark. The Blue Jays and Bearcats continued to go back and forth throughout the period, with Baruch holding a 43-39 edge entering the fourth quarter. Baruch pulled away early in the final frame, opening on a 9-3 run to extend its lead to 52-42 with 4:32 remaining. USJ was unable to close the gap, as Baruch secured the 66-51 victory.

Sophomore guard Nevaeh Yorke (Norwich, Conn.) flirted with a quadruple-double, recording 10 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, a career-high eight steals, and seven assists.
