Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Finale to Mary Hardin-Baylor Monday Night
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team dropped its 2025–26 non-conference finale, 74–42, to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) on Monday night inside the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium. With the result, the Blue Jays fall to 3–11 overall, while the Crusaders improve to 6–13 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
USJ jumped out to an early lead, holding a 7–4 advantage after sophomore guard Sequoia Turcotte Briggs (Andover, Conn.) knocked down a jumper at the 6:09 mark. UMHB responded with an 11–2 run to take a 15–9 lead with 1:55 remaining. The Blue Jays answered late in the quarter, as sophomore guard Nevaeh Yorke (Norwich, Conn.) converted a free throw to cut the deficit to four, 17–13, heading into the second quarter.
Turcotte Briggs pulled USJ within two, 19–17, at the 8:01 mark of the second quarter, but UMHB seized control from there, outscoring the Blue Jays 31–6 over the remainder of the period to build a 50–23 halftime lead.
UMHB carried its momentum into the second half, limiting USJ to six points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 65–29 entering the fourth. The Blue Jays outscored the Crusaders, 13–9, in the final frame, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as UMHB secured the 74–42 victory.

Yorke and junior forward Gjamory'a McTier (Palmer, Mass.) shared the team lead with six rebounds each.

The Crusaders limited USJ to 28.9 percent shooting from the floor.

UMHB also won the rebounding battle, 38–29.

The Blue Jays return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday, January 14, hosting Lasell University inside the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium. Tip-off against the Lasers in West Hartford is set for 5:00 p.m.
