10 Goals; Unbeaten for 10 Games

PAXTON, Mass. – The wins and records keep piling up for the first-place University of Saint Joseph soccer team.

Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) scored three goals for her second consecutive hat trick to help the University of Saint Joseph defeat Anna Maria College 10-0 Monday in a GNAC game.

Saint Joseph, ranked a program-best 14th in the latest NSCAA New England Division III poll, improved to 9-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the GNAC. The victory, coupled with Lasell's 3-2 loss to Norwich Monday put the Blue Jays in first place in the GNAC standings. The win was also USJs 10th game in a row without a loss (9-0-1), which broke the previous school record when the Blue Jays went 8-0-1 from Oct. 1-25, 2008.

Nolan had three goals and an assists on the day, Tiana Saraceno (Plainville, Conn.) had two goals and an assist and Nicole Mendelson (Southbury, Conn.) had a goal and an assist. Sara Barnick (Watertown, Conn.), Lindsey Cifaldi (Wolcott, Conn.), Courtney Cesca (Winsted, Conn.) and Keely Martin (Scotland, Conn.) all had single goals for USJ, which outshot Anna Maria (1-11), 53-1.

Nolan broke the ice 11:43 into the game when she put in a rebound for her eighth goal of the season, then delivered a pass on the left wing to Saraceno who scored to make it 2-0 at 13:53. Barnick scored next at 18:15 also from the left wing and USJ took a 4-0 lead into halftime after Saraceno knocked in a rebound at 30:25.

Nolan again started the second-half scoring 51:08 off a feed from Katie Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.). Cifaldi headed in a corner from Mendelson for the next tally and Mendelson got one of her on an untouched corner kick. Nolan completed her hat trick at 60:13 with her team-leading 10th goal of the season and scores from Cesca and Martin made for the final margin.

Saint Joseph Simmons Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. The game will be preceded by the annual Senior Day ceremony.
