MANFSFIELD, Conn. – Eastern Conn. State University scored two first-half goals eight minutes apart as ECSU defeated the University of Saint Joseph soccer team 2-0 Friday night in the Warrior Classic at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.
It was the season-opening game for both teams.
USJ had opportunities as the Blue Jays outshot Eastern 11-8 overall and had five shots on goal to two. Junior midfielder Katie Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.) generated a team-high four shots for USJ and senior midfielder Nicole Mendelson (Southbury, Conn.) had two.
Eastern junior Rachel Skelton made five saves for her first shutout.
Saint Joseph plays Manhattanville, Sat. Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. at Eastern in the Warrior Classic. Manhattanville defeated Fitchburg State, 1-0 in Friday's first game.
