Women's Soccer Dominates Dean, 6-0, on the Road Saturday Afternoon

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team earned a dominant 6-0 victory over Dean College (Dean) on the road Saturday afternoon during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Grant Field in Franklin, Mass. With the victory, the Blue Jays improve to 2-3-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in GNAC, while the Bulldogs drop to 0-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.

USJ opened the scoring early and never looked back, netting four goals in the first half and two more in the second. Sophomore Julia Loughman (Wolcott, Conn.) sparked the Blue Jays' offense with a pair of goals, including the opening goal in the eighth minute off a feed from senior Zoe Zappone (Plymouth, Conn.).

Senior Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) kept the momentum rolling for USJ, scoring twice in the opening half. Picard found the back of the net 32 seconds after Loughman's opening goal off assists from senior Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, NY) and senior Gillian Barresi (Holtsville, NY), before adding another in the 18th minute off a setup from Loughman.

Quitoni would pick up her second assist of the match, finding Zoe Zappone who, fired a shot into the back of the net in the 17th minute, increasing the gap to 3-0.

Loughman would find the back of the net once again in the 62nd minute off a pass from freshman Brooke Gallop (Hermon, Maine). Junior Kristina Topper (Torrington, Conn.) capped off the scoring in the 70th minute of the second half, with Gallop picking up her second assist. 

In her first collegiate start, sophomore goalkeeper Erika Horne (Killingly, Conn.) turned away all 5 shots on goal to secure the shutout win for the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays return home on Monday, September 15 when they welcome in WestConn for a non-conference match. Kickoff between the Blue Jays and Wolves is set for 6:00 p.m. at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn.
