Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Season At Regis Double-Dual Meet With UNE

WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team started off its 2022-23 campaign, falling to Regis College, 182-80, and the University of New England (UNE), 202-53, in a double-dual meet Saturday afternoon at Regis Pool in Weston, Mass.

"I'm very proud of the hard work both the men's and women's team have been putting in these last two weeks since the season started. We had some good swims today and a really great attitude from all. TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Gabriela Targonska (Newington, Conn.) Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) finished in third-place, posting a time of 2:13.19.
  • 1000 Yard Free – Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay to take part in the event, posting a time of 14:58.00 to finish in fourth
  • 200 Yard Free – Violette paced USJ in the 200 Yard Freestlye, finishing in fourth after posting a time of 2:23.45. Ashley Lebedeva-Lopzez also competed in the event, posting a time of 2:41.23.
  • 50 Yard Back – Targonska finished in third in the 50 Yard Backstroke, posting a time of 34.26 Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) also took part in the event, posting a time of 43.64.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Deanna Prescott (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Norah Smith (Pelham, N.H.) competed in the event for the Blue Jays as Prescott finished in fifth with a time of 43.07, while Smith followed close behind, finishing sixth in a time of 52.03
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Mamica lead the way in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing fourth in a time of 1:11.87. Bernardi also took part in the event, posting a time of 1:28.92
  • 50 Yard Free – Beebe paced USJ in the event, finishing fifth in a time of 32.32. Lebedeva-Lopez and Beyer trailed closely behind, finishing sixth and seventh, posting time of 32.25 and 34.36, respectively.
  • 100 Yard Free – Mamica paced the Blue Jays, finishing fourth in a time of 1:04.55.
  • 100 Yard Backstroke – Violette lead the Blue Jays, coming in fifth place in a time of 1:13.44. Targonska followed closely behind, finishing sixth in a time of 1:13.80.
  • 500 Yard Free – Mamica lead the way with a sixth place finish, recording a time of 6:31.33.
  • 50 Yard Butterfly – Targonska tallied a fifth palce finishing, recording a time of 32.72 to lead the team.
  • 100 Yard IM – Violette lead the Blue Jays, coming in fifth place in a time of 1:15.70. Bernardi and Lebedeva-Lopez and Prescott trailed closely behind, tallying times of 1:20.74, 1:23.18 and 1:25.27respectively.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay– The team of Beebe, Lebedeva-Lopez, Prescott and Beyer finished in fifth-place, posting a time of 2:17.22.

The Blue Jays will waste no time getting back in the pool, as they get set for the extremely competitive Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. in Bristol, R.I.
