Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Regis and UNE to Begin 2023-24 Season

WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team began its 2023-24 campaign Saturday morning, falling to Regis College (Regis) 164-81 and the University of New England (UNE), 182-56, in a double dual-meet inside Regis Pool in Weston, Mass.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of sophomore Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), junior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and freshmen Kaia Michaud (Hamden, Conn.) and Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in third-place, posting a time of 2:08.49.
  • 1000 Yard Free – Senior Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay to take part in the event, posting a time of 14:09.63 to finish in fourth
  • 200 Yard Free – Violette paced USJ in the race, finishing third after touching the wall in a time of 2:19.91.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Mamica placed third in the event, recording a time of 37.02 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Free – Michaud continued her impressive debut, winning the 50-yard free after posting a time of 27.84 seconds. Grech also placed inside the top-three, recording a time of 28.37 seconds to finish third.
  • 100 Yard Free – Grech notched her third top-three finish of the day in the 100-yard free, placing third after touching the wall in a time of 1:02.77.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Freshman Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing seventh after posting a time of 1:32.33.
  • 500 Yard Free – Mamica lead the way with a third-place finish, recording a time of 6:32.04.
  • 50 Yard Butterfly – Sophomore Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) tallied a sixth-place finish after posting a time of 35.28 seconds.
  • 100 Yard IM – Violette rounded out her impressive day with a second-place finish after touching the wall in a time of 1:13.93.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay– The team of Mamica, Michaud, Grech and Violette posted a second-place finish after combining for a time of 1:57.94.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for their 2023-24 home debut on Friday, October 20, hosting the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon. The event inside the Bruyette Natatorium is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
