Women's Swimming & Diving Competes Against Bridgeport and Roger Williams Saturday Afternoon

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool Saturday afternoon, dropping a double-dual meet against the University of Bridgeport and Roger Williams University inside the Baum Family Aquatic Center in Bridgeport, Conn. The Blue Jays fell to the Purple Knights, 171-85, and the Hawks, 192-76.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 400 M Medley Relay – The team of freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) finished in fifth place after combining for a time of 5:09.37.
  • 800 M Free –  Poltronieri paced the team in the event, placing fourth with a time of 11:34.92.
  • 200 M Free – Omar guided the Blue Jays, finishing second in a time of 2:19.42.
  • 100 M Back - Wysocka led the team with a third place finish in a time of 1:16.57.
  • 100 M Breast – Junior Izzy Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing eighth with a time of 1:40.06.
  • 200 M Butterfly - Niemczyk would finish in fifth place after posting a time of 2:59.28.
  • 1 M Diving - The Blue Jays dominated on the board, securing the top 3 spots. Junior Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) would take home first place with a total score of 154.05. Junior Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) finished in second, recording a score of 130.40 point while senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) would finish just behind her in third, posting a score of 130.10.
  • 50 M Free - Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in eighth place, posting a time of 34.58 seconds.
  • 100 M Free - Junior Madison Johnson (Southington, Conn.) placed ninth, finishing with a time of 1:40.18.
  • 200 M Back - Wysocka paced USJ with a seventh place finish, touching the wall in a time of 2:54.93.
  • 200 M Breast – Castrillo recorded a seventh place finish with a time of 3:37.45.
  • 400 M Free - Poltronieri finished in seventh, tallying a time of 5:32.06.
  • 100 M Butterfly - Omar would record a sixth place finish, posting a time of 1:14.40.
  • 400 M IM – Niemczyk won the event for USJ, finishing with a time of 5:30.61.
  • 400 M Free Relay - The team of Wysocka, Poltronieri, Niemczyk, and Omar finished in fifth after combining for a time of 4:40.29.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 14, traveling to Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, Conn., to compete in the CCSU Friday Night Sprints. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
