Women's Swimming & Diving Sits Fifth After Opening Night of Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team set a new freshman and program record in the 500 Free as the Blue Jays rounded out the opening day of the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University, Friday night inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. USJ tallied a score of 77 on the night to sit in fifth place after the first day of competition.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 500 Yard Free – Omar's record breaking performance paced the Blue Jays as she finished in 7th place, posting a time of 5:20.56.
- 200 Yard IM – Freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) finished in 21st after posting a time of 2:30.12.
- 50 Yard Free – Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) topped the timing sheet for USJ, posting a time of 30.57 seconds to finish in 33rd.
- 400 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Wysocka, Omar, Towey, and sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) finished in 16th, combining for a time of 4:33.22.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays round out the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships on Saturday, December 6. The action inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
