Women's Tennis Set to Face Top-Seeded Colby-Sawyer in GNAC Semifinals
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team, who earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Playoffs, is set to face the No. 1 seed Colby-Sawyer College (CSC) in the semifinals of the 2023 GNAC Playoffs. First serve against the Chargers is set for 12:00 p.m. on the Kelsey Courts in New London, N.H.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
- Sophomore Liliana Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) has paced the Blue Jays at No. 2 singles in 2023, leading posting a 4-6 record.
- Sophomore Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) and freshman Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) have led the Blue Jays in doubles action, posting a team-best 4-6 record at No. 3 doubles.
- Junior Grace Carpenter (Milford, N.H.) leads the Chargers at No. 1 singles, posting a 4-3 record on the year. First year Maria Espinosa Lopez (Merida, Mexico) has had an outstanding rookie campaign, posting a team-best 7-2 singles record while playing in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots.
- Carpenter and junior Elize Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.) have posted a 2-2 record at No. 1 doubles, while the team of senior Mary Thoms (Northwood, N.H.) and junior Mei Genest (Keene, N.J.) posted a perfect 5-0 record while playing at No. 3 doubles.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Chargers are a perfect 7-0 against the Blue Jays in the all-time series.
- CSC has swept the Blue Jays in all but one of the seven meetings.
- USJ and CSC meet for the first time in the postseason since 2021, where the Chargers defeated the Blue Jays, 5-0, in the GNAC semifinals.
- Earlier this season, the Chargers defeated the Blue Jays, 9-0, in Lake Sunapee, N.H.
POSTSEASON HISTORY
- USJ looks to make their second GNAC Championship appearance in program history, and first since 1999 when the Blue Jays won the GNAC title.
