Rossetti Named GNAC Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team was named both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its sixth weekly report of the 2024 season. The honors mark the fourth and fifth weekly accolade for Rossetti, including her first Player of the Week honor.
Rossetti paced the Blue Jays across two matches this past week, posting a 3-1 record overall after going a perfect 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles matches. The freshman star started her week with a pair of victories against Rhode Island College, securing a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while also winning in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-0. Rossetti rounded out her week by winning at No. 2 singles against GNAC foe Colby-Sawyer, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). She has enjoyed a stellar debut season, boasting a 19-4 record overall, including an 11-1 mark in singles matches and an 8-3 record in doubles play.
UP NEXT
The second-seeded Blue Jays begin the GNAC Playoffs on Saturday, October 12, hosting third-seeded Simmons University. Opening serve against the Sharks at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex in West Hartford, Conn., is slated for noon.
