Women's Tennis Drops CNE Match Against Colby-Sawyer Saturday
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team fell at home to Colby-Sawyer College (CSC), 7–0, in Conference of New England (CNE) play Saturday afternoon at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 3–5 overall and 1–2 in CNE play, while the Chargers improve their overall and conference record to 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.) and senior Allie Long (East Hartford, Conn.) battled at No. 2 doubles but fell, 6–1.
- Junior Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) and senior Bernae Webb (Bridgeport, Conn.) played at No. 3 doubles, dropping a close match 6–4, as CSC secured the doubles point and a 1–0 lead.
- Sophomore Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) rounded out the doubles matches at No. 1 doubles with a competitive effort but came up short against, 6–4.
- Milo was first to finish in singles, falling, 6–0, 6–1, as the Chargers extended their lead to 2-0.
- Freshman Anna Beauchene (Bristol, Conn.) took part at No. 6 singles, but dropped a 6–1, 6–1 decision, pushing CSC ahead 3-0.
- Garcia battled at No. 2 singles, but was topped in straight sets, 6–0, 6–2, as CSC clinched the overall match, 4–0.
- Senior Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) featured for USJ at No. 3 singles, falling in straight sets, 6–0, 6–1, making it 5–0 CSC.
- Long took part at No. 4 singles but came up short, 6–2, 6–2, increasing the Chargers lead to 6-0.
- Rossetti closed out the day in a competitive match at No. 1 singles but ultimately fell, 6–4, 6–2, as the Chargers sealed the 7–0 sweep.

The Blue Jays remain home for their next CNE match, hosting Nichols College on Tuesday, September 30. Opening serve against the Bison at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex in West Hartford, Conn., is set for 3:00 p.m.
