WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team delivered a commanding performance in its home opener, defeating Gordon College, 5-0, on Wednesday evening at the USJ Field Hockey Field. The Blue Jays improve to 1-1, while the Fighting Scots fall to 0-3.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Five different players scored for the Blue Jays, who finished with five goals and four assists.
  • Senior forward Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.) opened the scoring in the first period off a feed from fellow senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.).
  • In the second, senior defender Devan Fox, sophomore midfielder Alexa Maser (New Hartford, Conn.), and Barker each added goals, with assists from senior midfielder Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.) and sophomore forward Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.).
  • Kociszewski capped the scoring in the third period with a goal assisted by Komonaj, who finished with two assists.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • USJ controlled the match from start to finish, scoring in each of the first three periods and outshooting Gordon 36-2 overall, including a 24-0 margin in shots on goal.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) started the match and was relieved by senior Eryn Harvey (North Kingstown, R.I.) in the fourth period.
  • The duo combined for the shutout, as Gordon failed to register a shot on goal.
  • Gordon goalkeeper Allyson Stauffer made 19 saves in the loss.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays will look to keep it rolling when they return to action next on Saturday, September 6 in a non-conference contest at home versus Ramapo College. The action between the Blue Jays and Roadrunners is set to get underway at noon from the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn.
