Jaecee Martin Tabbed Men's Basketball GNAC Player Of The Week
WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior point guard Jaecee Martin (Hartford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its eighth weekly report of the 2021-22 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Martin and the third for the nationally-ranked USJ men's basketball team this season.
Martin had a solid all-around game to help power the No. 7 nationally-ranked Blue Jays past Colby-Sawyer College at home Saturday, 103-62, in USJ's lone game of the week. In just 20 minutes of floor time, Martin registered 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and connected on 5-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line. The 2020 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and Hartford product also had five rebounds, six assists, one steal, and one block in the triumph en route to earning his first career GNAC weekly accolade.
Martin continues to be one of the best point guards not only in the GNAC, but in Division III men's basketball. The 5-10 sparkplug is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game, and is fourth on the team in rebounding with 4.4 rebounds per game. He also ranks second in the GNAC in assists per game, dishing out 6.9 dimes per contest, and that mark also slots him eighth in all of Division III.
