Women's Basketball Falls to No. 3/No. 5 Bowdoin, 66-25, Saturday Afternoon

WENHAM, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team dropped a 66-25 decision to nationally-ranked No.3/No. 5 Bowdoin College (Bowdoin) Saturday afternoon during the final game of the Gordon Classic inside the Bennett Center in Wenham, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays fall to 0-2 on the year, while the Polar Bears improved to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

USJ hung in early behind baskets from sophomore guard Trinity Cruz (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and sophomore guard Sequoia Turcotte Briggs (Andover, Conn.), trailing 21-8 after one. Bowdoin then took control in the second quarter, using its defense to keep the Blue Jays off the scoreboard and build a decisive halftime lead, 38-8.

The Blue Jays responded with energy to open the third as sophomore guard Daichelle San Nicolas (San Antonio, Texas) provided a lift off the bench, scoring on a pair of drives during a brief USJ push. Junior guard Alexis Jablonecki (Manchester, Conn.) helped steady the offense as the Blue Jays put together a small stretch of stops and traded baskets through the middle of the period.

In the fourth, USJ produced another short spurt to start the quarter, with San Nicolas converting inside and freshman guard Maddy Evans (Hebron, Conn.) helping initiate cleaner actions on the perimeter. The Blue Jays continued to compete through the final minutes, but the early deficit held.

  • San Nicolas led USJ with seven points on 3-for-3 shooting off the bench.
