Women's Soccer Suffers Loss to Eastern Connecticut, 4-0

MANSFIELD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) on Wednesday evening at Rick McCarthy Field in Mansfield, Conn.

The Warriors (1-0-1, 0-0-0) controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, outshooting the Blue Jays (0-2-0, 0-0-0) by a margin of 22-2. ECSU opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Katelyn Herbert found the back of the net at 9:51 in the first half, assisted by Michaela Gasparri. Gasparri added a goal of her own at the 32:23 mark, assisted by Lilly Simpson, to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Eastern Connecticut extended its lead in the second half with goals from Lauren Weaver (62:16) and Arianna Tomassi (69:16), the latter assisted by Abby Kearns.

USJ junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) recorded eight saves in the loss, facing relentless pressure throughout the match. The Blue Jays were unable to generate consistent offensive chances, finishing with just two shots and no shots on goal.

Eastern Connecticut's defense remained stout, not requiring a save from its goalkeepers Alex Ignatowicz and Kaeden Dublin, who split time between the posts for the Warriors, en route to the victory.
