Picard’s Late Goal Powers Women's Soccer Past Norwich Saturday, 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over the Norwich University Cadets on the road Saturday afternoon during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium in Northfield, Vt. With the victory, the Blue Jays improved to 4-7-1 overall on the year and 4-3-1 in the GNAC, while the Cadets dropped to 4-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference.

After 89 scoreless minutes, senior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) broke the ice in dramatic fashion, scoring her team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 89:10 mark to propel the Blue Jays to a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Although Norwich controlled much of the stat sheet, holding advantages in shots (15-3), shots on goal (6-1), and corner kicks (9-0), the Blue Jays' determination and collective effort proved to be the difference in the end.

Junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) anchored the USJ defense, turning aside all six shots on goal she faced to record the shutout victory and preserve the clean sheet.
