WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Saint Joseph's College of Maine (SJC) on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn.. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 5-10-1 overall and 5-6-1 in GNAC play, while the Monks improved to 8-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the league.
The Monks struck first in the 15th minute when Emilienne Bidding-Augustine netted her first goal of the season off a feed from Sydney Gallop.
SJC doubled their lead early in the second half, as Gallop scored her team-leading ninth tally of the season in the 54th minute on an assist from Maeve Davis.
USJ pushed hard late, generating eight second-half shots and six corner kicks, but the Blue Jays could not solve the Monks' back line or goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerrette.
The Blue Jays held the lead in total shots (13-8) and corner kicks (6-3) while both teams posted five shots on target.
Guerette recorded five saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season. USJ junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) made three stops in the setback.
