Women’s Soccer Defeats Elms, 5-1, to Clinch 25th Consecutive Postseason Berth

CHICOPEE, Mass. – In its 2025 regular-season finale, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team used a four-goal second half to power past Elms College, 5-1, on the road in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday night at Timothy J. Leary Field in Chicopee, Mass. With the win, the Blue Jays closed the regular season 6-10-1 overall and 6-6-1 in GNAC play, while the Blazers ended their season 8-9-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the conference.

The victory also secured USJ a berth into the GNAC Women's Soccer Postseason Tournament, marking the program's 25th consecutive postseason appearance. The Blue Jays will enter as the No. 7 seed and travel to No. 2 seed Rivier University for a GNAC Quarterfinal match on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in Nashua, N.H.

Elms opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Emily Basua found the back of the net off a feed from Jamie McDonough, giving the Blazers an early 1-0 lead.

USJ's offense came alive in the 34th minute and never looked back. Senior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) netted the equalizer off a setup from graduate forward Elizabeth Garlock (Meriden, Conn.), sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

In the 51st minute, Picard struck again—her second goal of the game and team-leading 14th of the season—off an assist from sophomore forward Julia Loughman (Wolcott, Conn.), giving USJ its first lead of the night.

The Blue Jays kept their foot on the gas and broke through again in the 76th minute, as junior midfielder Eiland Brockett (Sterling, Conn.) scored her first career goal as a Blue Jay off a feed from junior forward Kristina Topper (Torrington, Conn.) to make it 3-1. Just two minutes later, senior forward Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, N.Y.) added an unassisted tally to extend the lead to 4-1.

Loughman capped the scoring in the 80th minute, finishing a double assist from Garlock and sophomore defender Samantha Clyde (South Portland, Maine) to seal the 5-1 victory.

USJ outshot Elms 24-15 overall and 14-10 in shots on goal, while the Blazers held a slight 8-6 edge in corner kicks. USJ's junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) made nine saves on the night to help secure the playoff-clinching win.
