Women’s Soccer Season Ends in GNAC Quarterfinals at Rivier on Saturday
NASHUA, N.H. – The seventh-seeded University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team saw its 2025 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to second-seeded Rivier University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Joanne Merrill Field. With the result, the Blue Jays concluded their season 6-11-1 overall, while the Raiders improved to 13-4-2 and advanced to the GNAC Semifinals, where they'll host third-seeded Lasell University on Wednesday evening.
After a tightly contested opening half that saw neither side break through, Rivier erupted for three goals in a four-minute span late in the second half to put the game away. Sophomore midfielder Leah Morrier opened the scoring in the 80th minute, finishing an over-the-top feed from freshman defender Hayleigh Young for her team-leading 17th goal of the season. Less than three minutes later, freshman forward Bailey Gatchell doubled the Raiders' advantage with her ninth of the year via a header off an assist from junior forward Cadance Ryan, who then capped the scoring just 42 seconds later with her second goal of the season to account for the 3-0 final.
The Raiders controlled much of the possession, outshooting the Blue Jays 29-4 overall and 15-3 in shots on goal, while also holding a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) was outstanding in net for USJ, making 12 saves to keep the Blue Jays in the match. Rivier senior goalkeeper Bri Nugent posted three saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.
Senior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) led the Blue Jays offensively with two shots on goal, and sophomore forward Julia Loughman (Wolcott, Conn.) added one.
The match marked the first-ever postseason meeting between the two programs, as the Blue Jays were making their 25th consecutive GNAC Tournament appearance. USJ now owns a 14-3-2 record against Rivier in the all-time series.
