Blue Jays Put Away Bard in Three

ANNANDALE, N.Y. – University of Saint Joseph sophomore Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had a season-high 12 kills to lead an efficient hitting attack as USJ defeated Bard in three sets Tuesday in a non-conference match at Bard.

USJ, which was won four of five, improved to 6-7 overall. Bard is 2-11. Scores by set were 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.

As a team, the Blue Jays put away kills on over half their attempts for the night, amassing 43 kills against only 14 hitting errors on 84 swings. Vigue started strong and only got better, picking up three kills in the first set, four in the second and five, on only seven swings, in the third. Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.), the reigning GNAC Offensive Player of the Week, had eight kills and nine digs for USJ. Cassandra Grimaldi (Manchester, Conn.) had seven kills for USJ on only 10 attacks and Rebecca DiPinto (Burlington, Conn.) added six kills.

Justine Walicki (Plainville, Conn.) served five aces for the Blue Jays and Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 29 assists.

The Blue Jays return to action Sat. Sept. 28 in a GNAC tri-match at St. Joseph's, of Maine, that also includes Albertus Magnus, beginning at 4 p.m.
