PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Johnson & Wales in a GNAC match at the Wildcat Center.
Johnson & Wales improved to 13-19 overall and is 8-2 in the GNAC. Saint Joseph was mathematically alive for the final GNAC Tournament berth, but was eliminated from contention Thursday in its final conference match. The Blue Jays are 9-18 overall and finished its conference schedule at 3-8.
JWU won the first two sets 25-13 and 25-14 to lead 2-0. USJ came back for a 25-21 third-set victory before JWU wrapped up the match with a 25-11 victory in the fourth set.
St. Joseph senior Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) had a career-high 31 assists playing her final match. Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had a match-high 16 kills to lead the USJ offense. Justine Walicki (Plainville, Conn.) had 11 digs for USJ and Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had five kills and seven digs.
USJ finishes its 2013 schedule, Sat. November 2 with a non-conference match at Eastern Conn.
