Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to No. 25 Trinity Tuesday Night

HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team battled, but fell on the road to nationally-ranked No. 25 Trinity College (Trinity), 2-0, Tuesday night at Trinity Soccer Field in Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Bantams improved to 2-0-1.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trinity opened the scoring in the 30th minute, as Tomas Ludvik converted off a pass from Kieran McCabe to make it 1-0.

  • The Blue Jays nearly responded before halftime, as sophomore midfielder Nico Hamzavi (West Hartford, Conn.) forced a save and senior forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) pushed a shot just wide.

  • USJ carried that momentum into the second half, earning multiple corners and testing the Bantams' back line, before Trinity doubled its advantage in the 69th minute on a finish by Shane Ivey.

  • The Blue Jays continued to battle late, with Hamzavi and Ofori again creating chances in the final 15 minutes, but Trinity's goalkeeper held firm to preserve the clean sheet.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Trinity held a 27-12 edge in total shots and an 8-2 margin in shots on goal.

  • The Bantams earned 10 corner kicks compared to five for the Blue Jays.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Will Slayton (Southington, Conn.) started in net for USJ, making two saves in the opening half. Slayton was credited with the loss, falling to 0-2-0 on the season.

  • Senior goalkeeper Andres Diosa (Newington, Conn.) came on after halftime and stopped four shots.

The Blue Jays begin the defense of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title on Saturday, September 13, hosting Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Kickoff against the Monks on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn., is set for 3:00 p.m.
