Men's Soccer Cruises Past NEC, 4-0, During Senior Day Saturday
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team capped off its Senior Day celebration in style, cruising to a 4–0 shutout victory over New England College (NEC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday evening at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. Prior to opening kickoff, the USJ Department of Athletics honored seniors Andres Diosa (Cheshire, Conn.), Eduardo Chavez-Baez (Norwalk, Conn.), Nicholas Simpson (Mansfield, Conn.), Jeremy Gibbs (Waterford, Conn.) and Jason Moleiro (Rocky Hill, Conn.) during a Senior Day ceremony.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 10-3-2 overall and 9-0-2 in GNAC play, extending their winning streak to five and their unbeaten run to 10, while NEC fell to 7-7-3 (3-6-2 GNAC). The victory also secured the top overall seed for USJ, marking the second-straight season the Blue Jays claimed the No. 1 seed.
HOW IT HAPPENED

USJ wasted no time getting on the front foot. In the 10th minute, senior forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) put the hosts ahead 1–0 with his team-leading eighth goal of the season, finishing off a cutback pass from Chavez-Baez.

The Blue Jays doubled their advantage just before halftime. Sophomore midfielder Nico Hamzavi (West Hartford, Conn.) fired home his fourth goal of the season in the 40th minute after a smooth combination play with sophomore midfielders Landon Coelho (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Mario Milardo (Middletown, Conn.).

USJ continued to control play after the break and made it 3–0 in the 67th minute, when sophomore Elis Sulollari (Cheshire, Conn.) cut inside from the left wing after receiving a long-range pass from Simpson and burying a low strike into the back of the net.

The Blue Jays capped the scoring in the 89th minute as Gibbs slotted home a low-driven strike from the left side of the box after controlling a pass from sophomore forward Griffin Neal (Waterford, Conn.) for his first goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) stopped four shots in the second half to record his fifth clean sheet of the season, as the Blue Jays' defense held NEC to just four shots on goal all night.

Ofori (8), Hamzavi (4), Sulollari (4), and Gibbs (1) accounted for the four USJ goals.

Slayton made four saves in 90 minutes to earn the shutout.

The Blue Jays outshot NEC 24-9 overall and held a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.

USJ also led 4-1 in corner kicks and committed just four fouls.

The Blue Jays round out the 2025 regular season on the road at intrastate and conference rival Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Kickoff against the Falcons at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn., is set for 7:00 p.m.
